Abstract

In order to examine the effect of pressure on the anharmonicity of Au,extended x-ray absorption fine-structure spectra near the Au L3 edge weremeasured in the temperature range from 300 to 1100 K under pressuresup to 14 GPa using large-volume high-pressure devices and synchrotronradiation. The anharmonic effective pair potentials of Au, V (u) = au2 /2! + bu3 /3!,at 0.1 MPa, 6 and 14 GPa have been calculated. The pressure dependence of thethermal expansion coefficients has also been evaluated. The reliability of theanharmonic correction proposed on the basis of the Anderson scale has beendiscussed.
