Abstract

We calculate the variation of coercivity and squareness with magnetic field direction for a longitudinal particulate medium using a vectorial model including curling and interactions among the particles. Our results are in reasonably good agreement with recent experimental data on ISOMAX. In particular, we calculate a peak in the coercivity of the correct size at approximately 60° out of the plane of the medium. The peak shifts to smaller angle and its height decreases with increasing randomness of the particle orientations.
