Abstract

Results of theoretical determinations of angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) and angle-resolved inverse photoemission (ARIPES) spectra for the Ag(100) surface are presented. The calculations are based on a local-density thin-film potential and a single-step model of photoemission in which both bulk and surface electronic structure are treated on an equal footing. Both ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{1}$ and ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{5}$ symmetries are investigated in the normal-emission ARPES spectra. The ARIPES spectra are presented for two symmetry planes: \ensuremath{\Gamma}XWK and \ensuremath{\Gamma}XUL. The spectra are found to be in good agreement with the corresponding experimental results.
