Abstract
AbstractStart‐up and operation of exothermic batch processes. A survey of the general characteristics of batchwise chemical production processes shows that the possibilities of complete prediction of optimum production tactics are limited. Thus recourse is taken to simplified semi‐empirical design procedures. It is demonstrated in the case of exothermic batch processes with indirect cooling that criteria can be given as to whether this production strategy is technically feasible. Given technical feasibility, these criteria can be used for design of a safe start‐up and operating behaviour. The procedure is illustrated for two applications.
