Abstract
The adrenal androgens (AAs), normally secreted by the fetal adrenal zone or the zona reticularis, are steroid hormones with weak androgen activity. Although AAs do not appear to play a major role in the fully androgenized adult man, they seem to play a role in the adult woman and in both sexes before puberty. Girls, women, and prepubertal boys may be negatively affected by AA hypersecretion in contrast to adult men. This chapter reviews the role and effects of AAs and analyzes the clinical significance of their hypersecretion during different stages of life in both sexes.KeywordsPituitary AdenomaAdrenal CortexCongenital Adrenal HyperplasiaPrecocious PubertyAdrenocortical CarcinomaThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
