Abstract

In 1910, André Antheaume (1867–1927) did not adapt to its medical-administrative situation. He handed in his resignation as head doctor of the National house of Charenton. He worked there for three years. In 1909, he asked to the architects Pierre Patout and Fernand Scalliet, the decorators Eugène Grasset and Felix Gaudin to create one of the most exclusive clinic in western Paris with Dr. Louis Bour (1876–1944): the home health Rueil-Malmaison. An institution established, organized and administered to allow the neurotics and psychopaths according to the ideas of the time outside the law of the 1838: the open treatment. With the creation of his private business and through “l’Amicale des aliénistes de France” which he was the president (1913–1919) and too, member of the « Commission de Surveillance des Asiles de la Seine » (1919), Antheaume worked and stood up for the treatment of non-patients suitable confinement in open services to nursing homes and hospital services. Imbueb with the vibrant of the League of Mental Hygiene (1920) of which he was the responsible of the Committee of Propaganda and Organization and equal right of Bonaparte which on the one hand successfully fought battles and, on the other hand, who became Napoléon reformed and reorganized the State and the society, Antheaume worked to achieve reforms in the field of psychiatric assistance and professional interests of alienists. It was in his “Actualités” and “Chroniques psychiatriques” published in the review l’Informateur des aliénistes et des neurologistes that Antheaume related it. It was a journal of free discussions and an essential communication tool to diffuse his reforming and free-market idea. Favourable to the interdisciplinary, Antheaume acted in such away that l’Encéphale has become one of the main periodicals in contributing to the science of the Neuropsychiatry either in France or in any other country.
