Ancient Greek Origins of Modern Biopolitics
Highlights
The article attempts to explain the origins of modern biopolitics
Its purpose is to show that biopolitics as a technology for governing the state and society is the phenomenon as ancient as the Western tradition of the political thought itself
Focusing primarily on the “Politics” of Aristotle and Plato’s dialogues “Politeia” and “The Laws”, A.Yarkeev demonstrates that many of the political and philosophical categories of the ancient Greek thought of the classical period are essentially biopolitical in nature, and the very method of developing political arguments about how to govern polis, largely anticipates modern biopolitical theory and practice

Территории, а к биологическому выживанию населения, осмысляемому в качестве политического императива. Справедливости ради надо отметить, что еще задолго до Фуко (лет примерно за 20) Ханна Арендт описала появление на новоевропейской политической сцене в качестве главного действующего лица animal laborans, человека в модусе «трудящегося животного», что привело к превращению биологической жизни в фундамент производства и потребления, ибо труд как источник общественного благосостояния конгруэнтен движущим силам биологического жизненного процесса: «Деятельность труда отвечает биологическому процессу человеческого тела, которое в своем спонтанном росте, обмене веществ и распаде питается природными вещами, извлеченными и приготовленными трудом, чтобы предоставить их в качестве жизненных необходимостей живому организму»6. В рассуждениях Арендт об animal laborans, в свою очередь, ощущается сильное влияние Мартина Хайдеггера, в работе которого «Преодоление метафизики» человек как animal rationale, закономерно ставший в наше время «трудящимся живым существом», квалифицируется
