Abstract
Abstract Lymph node involvement is common in rectal cancer and is an important factor in cancer staging, prognosis, and treatment planning. Understanding pelvic lymph node anatomy is crucial for diagnostic radiologists in order to provide accurate information on nodal involvement for surgical teams. This paper reviews pelvic lymph node anatomy as it relates to locoregional versus non-locoregional nodal disease, surgical approaches to rectal cancer with nodal involvement, and the importance of standardized rectal cancer imaging reports.
