Abstract

Current progressive and radical approaches to social work tend to reflect Marxist views of social problems and their solution. A critique of classical and other non-autonomous Marxist views of authority and structure leads the reader to consider moving beyond hierarchies to considering anti-authoritarian perspectives for social work. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the reader to the history and theory of anarchist thought. I make it clear that I am not speaking from a position of expertise nor claim authority here but encourage further dialogue. This is explicitly articulated as this paper intends to inform and promote discussion and thought on an anarchist approach to social work.
