Abstract
Summary Fatal passive anaphylaxis can be induced in Bordetella pertussis-treated mice with as little as 6–7 μg of mouse Ab N. Anaphylactic symptoms can be observed in these animals sensitized intraperitoneally with 2.3 μg of mouse Ab N. No significant difference was found between the amount of antibody required to sensitize B. pertussis-treated mice by the intravenous and by the intraperitoneal route. Normal mice can be sensitized to fatal anaphylaxis with mouse antibody, but a greater amount is required than for B. pertussis-treated mice. No latent period was observed after the intravenous injection of antibody since mice could be shocked 5–10 sec after administration of antibody. B. pertussis-treated mice could be fatally shocked at least 6 days after injection of 20 μg Ab N. Symptoms were observed 13, but not 21 days after the administration of antibody.
