Abstract

This study offers insight into the examination of samizdat journals from the point of view of analysis of quantitative data, obtained from the Czech Literary Samizdat Bibliography database, created in the years 2016–2022 as part of the Czech Literary Bibliography at the Institute of Czech Literature at the CAS. It describes how the development of the database defined the excerption scope, presents findings based on possible interpretation of the obtained data (primarily addressing questions concerning authorship, genre, and theme), as well as various ways in which the prepared data can be misleading (due to, for example, incompleteness of the dataset investigated, and specific issues raised by cataloguing in MARC 21 format).
