Abstract

The article presents an analytical model of data delay in wireless sensor networks and results of network reliability assessment. Energy consumption and communication delay prediction should be considered when designing a real-time wireless sensor network. The paper proposes an analytical model for service time and delay prediction in IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee WSN. The proposed model is based on realistic assumptions. It takes into account the most important characteristics of the network, such as transmission delay, verification and collisions, and failures due to transmission errors. Compared with modeling results and other analytical approaches, the model provides reliable service time and delay predictions.
