Abstract

Coupling coefficients due to inter-core coupling in a 9-core homogeneous multi-core optical fiber (MCF) are evaluated analytically. Variation of coupling coefficients with respect to the fiber parameters, like, core-to-core separation (pitch), core radius and relative refractive index difference are investigated. Results show that the coupling coefficients are inversely related to the core pitch and index contrast, but it increases with the increase of core radius. It is also observed that while keeping the pitch and index contrast unchanged, the core radius plays a significant role to control the coupling among the cores. Variation of coupling coefficients with relative index difference are compared with similar results reported earlier.
