Abstract

A methhod cf quantitative estimation of magnesium and cobalt, respectively, as their oxalate dihydrate was investigated and a satisfactory result was obtained. These metals were precipitated completely, in the presence of acetic acid, by use of ammonium oxalate or potassium oxalate as a precipitating agent in case of magnesium and oxalic acid was used in case of cobalt. In each case, 50% alcohol was used for washing of the precipitate and the precipitate was dried at below 120°C in case of magnesium and that of cobalt at below 105°C.Negative errors were accompanied in the estimation of magnesium by the presence of sodium salt, but the presence of the other alkali salts did not give any affect on the quantitative estimation by this method.
