Abstract
The paper describes a method for determining the input reactance of a cylindrical dipole by analytic continuation of the Poynting-vector integration into the ‘invisible’ part of the radiation pattern. The theoretical basis for this method, which was described recently for planar aerials, is extended to cylindrical radiating systems. The reactance of a thin dipole is evaluated for a range of dipole sizes, and the results are compared with those obtained by the well known induced-e.m.f. method.
