Abstract
Objective To analyze imaging features of X-ray, CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) between the femoral neck tumor and tumor-like lesions. Methods Forty-five patients with femoral neck lesions confirmed by pathology were selected, and all lesions were examined by X-ray, CT or MRI examination. Then, the imaging features of various inspection methods were analyzed. Results Of the 45 patients, the benign and neoplastic lesions of the femoral neck accounted 71.11% (32/45) of all lesions, and the malignant tumors accounted 28.89% (13/45); there were 5 cases of simple bone cyst, 7 cases of aneurysmal bone cyst, 17 cases of fibrous dysplasia of bone, 3 cases of giant cell tumor of bone, 9 cases of metastatic tumor and 4 cases of myeloma. The diagnostic coincidence rate of X-ray, CT and MRI was 77.7% (35/45), 91.1% (41/45), 91.1% (41/45), respectively. The imaging features of benign lesions and locally invasive tumors were characterized by cystic, expansive bone destruction, marginal sclerosis, and well-defined margins; malignant tumors were mainly characterized by osteolytic, unclear boundaries and invasive growth; the inner edge of the sclerotic bone fibrous dysplasia are coarse, block or high density floc are common in the lesion center; edge of giant cell tumor of bone were sharp, and inner edge was often visible spines with uniform density. Conclusions There are various types of diseases in the neck of femur, and the age range is large; and the X-ray examination can be taken as the main imaging method for qualitative diagnosis, by which most of the lesions can be clearly identified, and a small number of lesions need to be diagnosed by combination with CT and MRI, especially malignant tumors. CT and MRI can further diagnose the involving region of lesion and invasion of surrounding tissues.
