Abstract

Values are the guiding set of principles within us. It often deals with the do’s and don’t’s. Values are socially approved which guides our behavior in the society we live. Gorden Allport ,(1969) has defined value as "a belief upon which a man acts by preferences." value is what is desired or what is sought values may be operationally conceived as those guiding principles of life which are conductive to one's physical and mental health, also to social welfare and adjustment and which are a part of one's culture. According to Paul Brenton, the problems which bring down on humanity, may be mostly political, economical and ecological, but their ground remains moral and metaphysical. Unfortunately, the society today finds itself ill equipped to handle these fundamental problems. One of the important reasons being complete lack of moral and spiritual training even among the educated sections of the society. In order to solve the problem of lack of moral and spiritual values among us, our curriculum should inculcate value education right from the foundational stage. The study aims to analyse the need for value education in our educational curriculum for developing better citizens.
