Abstract

Objective To analyze the characteristics of retinopathy of prematurity(ROP)in Panyu district of Guangzhou and explore an appropriate criteria for screening.Methods According to Guangzhou standards of ROP screening,1270 premature infants were examined with a computer-assisted imaging system which incorporated with a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope.The results were analyzed and scrutinized by national standards of ROP screening which issued by Ministry of Health in China.Results Among the examined subjects,there were 14 infants with ROP,the incidence of ROP was 7.56%.Among them,7 infants were diagnosed as in period 1,3 infants in period 2,4 infants in period 3.Two infants needed treatment.There was no infant in period 4 and 5.After examination,35 infants had subconjunctival hemorrhage of different level,2 infants had scalp hemorrhage,and 1 infant had acute conjunctivitis.Twenty-eight infants screeched at night.During screening,there was no apnea,shock and other severe complications.Conclusions The computer-assisted imaging system incorporated with a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope is suitable for ocular fundus examination in primary health organization.National standard is better than city standard for ROP screening in Panyu district.
