Abstract

The resistive DC superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) can the suppress DC fault current, which needs coordination with other protection devices in DC system. The coordination principle of resistive DC SFCL, DC circuit breaker and MMC converter are analyzed for multi terminal DC power grid protection strategy. Then, taking the three terminal MTDC project as an example, the rationality of the proposed protection strategy is verified in PSCAD/EMTDC software. The results indicate that the protection strategy based on resistive DC SFCL for DC fault improves the operation flexibility of MTDC transmission system.
