Abstract

From the perspective of trade structure, analyzing the impact of the Sino-US trade structure on bilateral relations has expanded the research on the impact of Sino-US bilateral relations. This paper uses a panel data model of China and the United States from 2001 to 2020 to empirically study the impact of import and export trade structures (the proportion of different categories of imported and exported goods) on bilateral relations. The study finds that the import and export trade structure of the two countries has a significant impact on bilateral relations, and the changes in the proportion of different categories of goods trade have obvious differences in the Sino-US bilateral relations. The use of the GDELT database for big data analysis and the division of trade structure based on SITC codes helps to analyze bilateral relations between countries. This study enriches the research on the relationship between China's import and export trade and bilateral relations, and provides a certain value reference for academic research and policy formulation for the academic community and policy makers.
