Abstract
The investigation of this paper gives an overview to study the effect of heat treatment on different metals by using three different cooling media: Air, Water, and Oil. The analysis was done by software Simufact.forming for a cylinder to predict heat treatment stress and distortion. The specimens of this investigation are low, medium and high carbon steel. It has been observed from the analysis that volume decreases and residual stresses develop due to thermal gradient. This paper will help to predict the required allowance of deformation due to heat treatment to achieve desired dimensioned object without machining.
