Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of average self-study competence’s niveau of the cadets of the first study year who entered a military high school. The article observes different approaches to the definition of "self-study competence" and provides some ways of dividing it into levels or niveaus. Great attention is paid to the analysis of the research results that were gathered among the first year cadets of Cherepovets High Military Engineering School. The research was based on developed methodology and E.C. Harrington’s desirability function. As a result, it was found that first-year cadets have not enough of self-study skills when they start their higher education. In general self-study competence is at the intermediate level and is different in components.
