Abstract

The article provides a literature review from the point of view of the concept of safe laparoscopic cholecystectomy and the causes of intraoperative damage to the bile ducts.The main provisions of the concept of safe cholecystectomy include: a clear understanding of the anatomy of the biliary tract; timely use of intraoperative visualization methods; compliance with the concept of safety before dividing the cystic duct and artery in each case; awareness of the importance of time-out; obtaining a second opinion in di ffi cult cases; the importance of proper documentation. It has been proven that the greatest number of complications in laparoscopic cholecystectomy occur during the intraoperative phase, and the most common reason is «problematic visualization».The goal of promoting the «safe cholecystectomy concept» is to reduce the rate of biliary tract injury and is a worldwide initiative aimed at improving the safety of the laparoscopic method.
