Abstract

Physical vapour deposition (PVD) method is a popular method to deposit thin layers. Hence, it is widely used to fabricate coated cutting tools. In the current article, brief review of the investigations related to the residual stress induced during PVD process is presented. The investigative reports on the factors influencing the magnitude and nature of the residual stress are analysed. Also, the reports which presented the effects of the residual stress on the mechanical properties and cutting performances are analysed and included in this article.
