Abstract

The polycrystalline samples of Ba0.96Ca0.04Ti(1-x)MnxO3-x for 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15 were synthesized using conventional solid state reaction route. The Rietveld analysis shows that the samples crystallize in pure tetragonal structure for x ≤ 0.02, hexagonal structure for x = 0.15 and are mixed phase for 0.02 < x < 0.15. SEM analysis shows that the tetragonal phase has lower grain size as compared to hexagonal phase. The remnant polarisation was found to decrease with increasing Mn concentration. The 0.03 = x ≤ 0.15 samples were found to exhibit almost paramagnetic character with the strength of co-operative interactions among spins increasing with Mn concentration. The XPS and Brillouin analysis confirms that the Mn exhibits both +2 and + 3 oxidations states.
