Abstract

Equations for the calculation of the changes in particle number and size during a solution mediated transformation have been derived and used for the analysis of particulate processes occurring during the transformation of zeolite A into hydroxysodalite. Applying the equations derived, the proposed mechanisms of zeolite A dissolution and hydroxysodalite growth and the corresponding experimental data, changes in the particle size and number of both zeolite A and hydroxysodalite during the transformation process are calculated. The results obtained are discussed in relation to the transformation kinetics and the previously measured changes in the average particle size during the transformation.
