Abstract

AbstractVibration can cause reliability problems and fatigue failures on equipment, and if resonances are involved, can result in very significant effects. A dynamic vibration absorber, eliminates or minimizes the amplitude of vibration of a structure when set to the forced vibration frequency. An active dynamic undamped and damped vibration absorber is proposed. The effects of optimum parameters of tuning for an active damped dynamic vibration absorber on the vibration reduction of a structure are discussed. Optimized design parameters of mass-spring-damper-actuator active vibration absorber proposed in this work are derived based on minimization of amplitude of resonant vibration of the structure. In an undamped dynamic vibration absorber, spring of absorber mass connected to rigid base with negative stiffness can broaden the frequency range of vibration mitigation. In a damped dynamic vibration absorber, negative stiffness of absorber mass connected with rigid base could significantly reduce the peak value of amplitude-frequency response of the primary system for lower mass ratio.
