Abstract
Objective To explore nursing economic benefits of PICC in Department of Liver and Gallbladder Surgery. Methods A total of 32 PICC cases during July 2013 to February 2014 in Department of Liver and Gallbladder Surgery were analyzed with cost-benefit analysis method of economics. Results The total costs were 6 300.46 RMB Per PICC cases; the direct costs were 5 581.25 RMB; and the indirect costs were 719.21RMB. The total gross profits were -1 941.55RMB per PICC case while the net profits were -1 456.16RMB. There was no complications (such as phlebitis, catheter related infections, thrombus, etl.) occurred except one case of accidental extubation. Conclusions The total costs of PICC are higher than the profits in Department of Liver and Gallbladder Surgery that cannot reflect the labor values of PICC professional nurses. How to reflect labor values of PICC professional nurses between balanced patient medical burden and costs lever of hospital operation that is the worthy thinking and research topic in the future of nursing development.
