Abstract

The purpose of this study is to gain basic data when developing nail tip designs suitable for teens through a survey on the current status of nail tips used by teens and conducting analysis of the designs of commercially available nail tips. For research, a total of 300 teenage female adolescents (ages 11-19) were surveyed to understand the status of nail tips used and to determine their preferred brands. Accordingly, a total of 232 analysis photos were gathered and analyzed for the design of the ‘Desing Diva’, which is currently being sold in ‘H&B Stores’ and currently occupy the No. 1 position in the industry. The research results are as follow: First, as for the experience of using nail tips, 76% of elementary school students answered that they did not have experience, whereas 58% of middle school students, and 54% of high school students had experience using nail tips. Second, as a result of the ‘nail tip purchase path’, it was confirmed that teens mostly purchased nail tips through ‘H&B stores’, such as ‘Olive Young’ and ‘Lalabla’. Third, as a result of design analysis based on 232 photos, the proportion of geometric patterns was the highest, with a proportion of greater than 50%. Fourth, for color analysis results, both types of nail tips used in the ‘YR series’ and the ‘Y series’ were remarkable, and achromatic colors were less frequently used as dominant colors. Fifth, as a result of the decoration analysis, artificial jewelry and metal decorations showed a high frequency in the geometric aspect, but decorations were not used at all in the character pattern.
