Abstract

Currently, Busan Subway have been used by 900 thousands of people a day on average, and also will continue to be increased of lines and stations. In the case of transfer stations, linking different routes, have complex plane structure. So they should be provided an appropriate information and an comfort available to the subway. Specially the environmental color play a role as the environmental information. The purpose of this study is to investigate line’s color, and interior color of Busan Subway’s transfer station. For this study we took subway stations picture and analyzed colors using Korea Standard Color Analysis (KSCA) program. Summary of the finding of this study is as follows: First, as a result of comparison of subway station’s environmental color among Busan Subway’s transfer stations, the use of hues of interior colors in most interior color of subway platforms appeared as being limited to group ‘YR’, ‘Y’, ‘PB’ and ‘achromatic color’. Second, this study found out that each transfer passageway’s hues is similar regardless of transfer passageway’s path length. Third, according to Subway Passenger satisfaction survey, 61 % of the passengers surveyed responded that they had difficulty wayfinding to the transfer passageway. Fourth, Symbolic function, Identification function, and Physical function should be considered important in the subway line colors.
