Abstract

The use of polymer composites for various applications like automobile, aerospace, defence, marine and other industry is becoming highly advantageous owing to their lighter weight, higher strength and durability. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the effect of the filler additions on properties of polymer matrix composites based on the epoxy resin reinforced with glass fiber and fly ash as the fillers. The hybrid polymer matrix composites were fabricated using the hand lay-up method. Percentage of fly ash particles in the epoxy matrix was varied from 4-10 weight% in steps of 2 weight%. The fabricated polymer matrix composites were than subjected to microstructural study, impact strength test, tensile strength test and flexural strength test.
