Abstract

Teaching a second language requires developing appropriate listening skills. In this sense, this work was focused on analyzing these skills using rhymes and minimal consonant pairs in 5-year-old children for learning English. The sample was made up of 7 children. However, the participation of teachers was also considered to validate the experience. The study focused on carrying out listening activities, where the child could express himself spontaneously with his peers. The main results show that the children studied can learn a new language without major difficulties, however, teachers must have pedagogical strategies to carry out methodologies suitable according to the context and age of the students. In this sense, the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is indispensable for this objective.
