Abstract
An elasticity solution for an anisotropic laminated circular cylindrical shell, simply supported under axisymmetric loads is obtained by using the three-dimensional elasticity theory. A detailed comparison of the stresses and displacements of the classical shell theory with the exact elasticity solution is carried out for ratios of midsurface radii to thickness varying from 2 to 50. It has been shown that the classical shell theory can give a good description of the behaviour of one-layer cylindrical shell, and converges to the exact solution when the shell becomes thin.
