Abstract

The CH emission from an oxyacetylene flame at atmospheric pressure has been examined with a Fabry-Perot interferometer crossed with a grating spectrograph. The fringe patterns are analyzed, using four different methods of reduction of data. Poor agreement is observed with theoretical intensity line contours for combined instrumental and Doppler broadening. The graphical integration technique of Gaydon and Wolfhard is employed to estimate the amount of collision broadening. Translational equilibrium conditions are observed to exist for CH in the flame, with temperature near the maximum theoretical adiabatic value.
