Abstract

A rapid method for the determination of iron, cobalt and nickel in fluoroborate solutions has been devised and tested. It involves an initial dichromate titration to determine both iron(II) and iron(III) followed by the simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of cobalt and nickel at wavelengths 394 and 512 nm after reduction of all the iron to the iron(II) state. The recommended procedure, which can be completed in less than 1 hour, has been successfully applied to typical plating solutions.
