Abstract

Food security is a condition for the fulfillment of food for everyone, which is reflected in the availability of sufficient food. Household food security is influenced by many factors and varies between individuals and households. The need for animal food in Indonesia comes from several main types of products, namely ruminant meat, fish, and poultry. Public awareness of the importance of consuming healthy and nutritious animal protein has encouraged an increase in national fish consumption to 50 kg/capita/year in 2019. This study aims to identify food consumption patterns, calculate the share of food expenditure and identify the condition of the level of household food security and analyze the influence of factors such as the level of education of housewives, household age, household income, number of household members, climate change and the amount of fish consumption. On the level of household food security. The method used in this study is an observational method with a survey approach. The research was carried out in March 2021 in.Tayu District, Pati Regency. Sampling of respondents in this study was carried out by purposive sampling technique in accordance with the intent or purpose of the researcher. The number of fishermen respondents was determined by a proportional random sampling approach of 125 respondents. The data in this study are primary and secondary data with data collection methods using survey methods and literature searches. The results showed that the average energy consumption of fishermen’s households in Tayu District, Pati Regency was 1,976.51 kcal/person/day and the average protein consumption was 51.03 g/person/day with the average energy consumption obtained from fish of 162.56 kcal/person/day and protein of 11.19 grams/person/day. The average total expenditure of fishermen’s households in Tayu District, Pati Regency was IDR 2,855,721 every month with details of the average total food expenditure was IDR 1,405,686 or 49.2% and the average non-food expenditure was IDR 1,450,035 or 50.8% every month. The condition of food security of fishermen’s households in Tayu District, Regency was classified in the food security category, which consists of 54.4% of the total number of respondents. Meanwhile, the food vulnerable category was 6.4% and food shortage was 39.2%. The factors that significantly affect the level of household food security are household income, number of household members, climate change and the amount of fish consumption while the education level of housewives and household age do not significantly affect the food security of fishermen’s households in the district of Tayu in Pati Regency.
