Abstract

It is devoted to the specifics of the distribution of dominant land use types in the Carpathian region. The natural resources provided by the Carpathian region are described. Land, forest and water resources of the Carpathian region, as well as the main causes of land degradation, namely: landslides, mudslides and erosion (dangerous slope processes that are activated by both natural and anthropogenic factors); analyzed natural and man-made factors that negatively affect the land resources of the Carpathian region; volumes of illegal deforestation; water pollution in the Carpathian region.
 Particular attention is paid to the negative anthropogenic impact on agricultural land (excessive tillage; ineffective agro-ameliorative measures; excessive fertilization; impact of built-up areas; other characteristics); forestry purposes (continuous deforestation; improper forest skidding; logging clutter; violation of the structure of virgin forests; the impact of built-up areas); water fund within the Carpathian region (wastewater discharge; illegal construction of coastal protection strips; extraction of minerals in floodplains of rivers and lakes; ineffective hydrological and reclamation measures; impact of built-up areas). The volumes of illegal logging in natural areas as of 2018 have been studied. Also, special attention is paid to the study of the level of forest cover in Ukraine (by region) as of 2018.
