Abstract

During the operation of the vehicle's power supply system, there are inevitable deviations due both to malfunctions of system elements (vehicle generator, battery, belt drive) and failures in other electric equipment (short circuits). The paper considers the effects of loosening the generator drive belt tension, oxidation of the battery and generator terminals on the vehicle's power supply system parameters. We have found that loosening the generator drive belt tension affects the vehicle's power supply system parameters, which is translated in the current ripples within the range of (1,000 – 2,000 rpm) with a 175% deflection of the nominal value, as well as unacceptable fluctuations of currents and voltages with increasing deflection up to 250% of the nominal value. When the critical resistance value is reached between the battery and the load, the generator begins to malfunction due to a decrease in the generator's initial excitation voltage. In this case, the battery is not charged. Upon reaching the critical value of resistance between the battery and the load, the generator stops supplying current to the on-board network. Therefore, oxidation of the generator and (or) battery terminals will cause the battery's progressive discharge. Further research will be focused on the impact of generator and battery defects on the vehicle's power supply system parameters.
