Abstract

AbstractThe paper analyzes the priority directions of demographic policy in the Russian Federation and the main trends in migration processes. The paper aims to reveal the regularities of migration of population and labor resources in the Russian Federation and the Smolensk Region and assess the impact of migration processes on the region’s economic security. The authors consider the main demographic indicators and general trends of migration processes in the Russian Federation and the Smolensk Region (a region of the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation). The paper identifies the key demographic problems characteristic of the Smolensk Region. These problems include a constant decrease in the population due to natural decrease and aging and a tendency to decrease the migration flow. The authors emphasize that migration does not provide sufficient compensation for population loss due to insufficiently high birth rates and the outflow of the population to more developed regions of Russia. The authors study the dynamics of migration processes in the Russian Federation and consider quantitative and qualitative indicators of international migration in the Smolensk Region. The authors conducted a survey to identify the reasons for the departure of residents of the Smolensk Region to other regions and the entry of citizens of other regions and countries to the Smolensk Region. The paper also provides a comparative analysis of the main indicators of socioeconomic development of the Russian Federation and the Smolensk Region and analyzes the indicators of their economic security. In conclusion, the authors consider possible measures that can solve the socioeconomic migration problems of the Smolensk Region.KeywordsDemographic processesMigration flowInternational migrationEconomic growthRegionCentral Federal DistrictEconomic securitySocioeconomic developmentJEL ClassificationJ0J6
