Abstract
Based on the analysis of the current situation with food security in Russia, it is concluded that effective indicators showing the food self-sufficiency of regions should be developed. The purpose of the work was to develop a methodology for assessing the level of food self-sufficiency and to test it on materials of the Smolensk region. The subject of the study is the agro-industrial complex of the Smolensk region. The statistical materials concerning the agro-industrial complex operation in the Smolensk region in 2016 were used along with analytical methods including the mathematical and comparative analysis. As a result, the author proposes his own methodology for rating the food self-sufficiency in the Smolensk region that can be used in the regional management of the agro-industrial complex at the federal and local levels. The scientific novelty of the research is the author’s approach to assessing the basic food self-sufficiency level in the region along with the definition of a rating value. The final rating value of the region’s self-sufficiency in basic food products is 0.612, which indicates a satisfactory level.
