Abstract
A single phase boost converter in both discontinuous inductor current mode (DICM) and continuous inductor current mode has been dealt in order to reduce total harmonic distortion (THD) of source side current and improve power quality of source. Results obtained by proposed technique have been compared with the conventional rectifier operation. The proposed schemes have been simulated on MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The simulation results show that conventional rectifier has produced 215% of THD while DICM and CICM introduced 31% and 9% of THD, respectively. Power factor (pf) obtained by DICM and CICM are found to be 0.95 and 1 (unity) by which it can be concluded that the maximum percentage reduction in THD and better pf are obtained by proposed CICM technique and then DICM technique as compared to conventional technique which in turn improve overall power quality of system under investigation.
