Abstract

A plain hexagonal cross section Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) biosensor dependent on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) phenomenon is proposed here. Gold is used as plasmonic material in this work and to avoid fabrication complexity external coating is used. The proposed sensor is examined as far as wavelength and amplitude sensitivity. The sensor shows maximum wavelength and amplitude sensitivity up to 13,650 nm/RIU with a resolution of 7.32×10-6 RIU and 1416 RIU-1 with a resolution 7.06×10-6 respectively. The sensor can detect the sample analyte ranging from 1.33 to 1.41. As the sensor shows promising result, so it can be used in many applications including biomedical engineering, organic chemical sensing, biomedical diagnostics and real time monitoring of biochemical reactions.
