Abstract

Objective To analysis the clinical characteristics of ocular trauma of 681 juveniles in Northeast Sichuan in 12 years. Methods The data of 690 eyes of 681 juveniles with ocular trauma from Jan. 2004 to Dec. 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. Results The most age range of juveniles with ocular trauma was 8-17 years and average (10.02±4.43) years. The ratio of male to female was 3.37: 1(525: 156). From 2004 to 2009, the population of juveniles with ocular trauma showed an upward trend, and in the following 6 years showed a downward trend. The ocular trauma of juveniles was more common in rural areas than in urban areas, the causes of injuries were most commonly related to sand, plastic bullet, toys (27.61%). The types of injuries were common in closed ocular trauma and open ocular trauma. There were 343 eyes of 336 patients with surgery, and 347 eyes of 345 cases with non-operative treatment. After management, the best corrected visual acuity was improved in varying degrees. Enucleation of eyeball or evisceration were performed in 14 cases in primary operation. Conclusion The ocular trauma of juveniles is serious. Strengthening the propaganda in prevention of eye injury and taking accordingly protective measures can effectively prevent the occurrence of ocular trauma.
