Abstract

Objective To report 18 cases of Fasciola gigantica infection and to analyze the epidemiological characteristics,clinical manifestations,treatment and prevention measures thus to provide a basis for control the disease.Methods Feces samples of 18 cases were collected and examined for eggs,meanwhile,serum samples were detected for antibody by ELISA method.The clinical analysis was based on the combination of clinical manifestations and laboratory examinations.Results The serum antibody positive rate in all 18 cases was 100%,while the positive rate of faecal eggs of Fasciola gigantica was 22.2%.The clinical manifestations of Fasciola gigantica were high fever with gastrointestinal and/or respiratory symptoms,the percentage and absolute value of eosinophils were significantly high and hepatic morphological and functional changes.The treatment with triclabendazole was effective.Conclusion Multi-system damage occured after infection of Fasciola gigantica.Triclabendazole treatment was effective to cure the disease.
