Abstract

The analysis and performance of the two-phase dc-dc boost converter with high voltage gain and low switch voltage stress are presented in this study. The operation mode is similar to that of the conventional boost converter. The proposed converter can operate in continuous conduction mode, or discontinuous conduction mode, depending on the design of the inductors. Moreover, the simple controller is similar to that used in the traditional converter. Results show that the voltage stress on switches is reduced two times in the two-phase converter compared with the conventional converter. The use of low-voltage rated switches reduces the losses significantly. A 200 W two-phase dc-dc boost converter prototype has been built and successfully tested to verify its feasibility.
