Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the stimulus and function of pictures in social studies and science textbooks for the third grade of elementary school. The content analysis was used to analyze the data. The finding showed that more than one half of the pictures provided in social studies and science textbooks were simple line drawings. All of the pictures in social studies textbooks are black-and-white or single color, while science textbooks used color and black-and-white pictures. It was also found that more than one half of the pictures in the textbooks had descriptive functions
