Abstract

Non-Chinese ancestry students studying Mandarin at Sebelas Maret University, Indonesia have increased every year. This paper discusses three aspects, learning motivation, learning attitude, and learning difficulties of non-Chinese ancestry students in the Mandarin Language Department at Universitas Sebelas Maret. Non-Chinese ancestry students have several characteristics in learning, have learning goals, and have a positive learning attitude. In general, the difficulties faced by non-Chinese ancestry students in learning Chinese are because they rarely communicate in Chinese, which caused mistakes in listening and pronunciation, even though there is a lot of pressure in learning, they still maintain a strong motivation to learn Chinese.
