Abstract

Speaking and presentation skills are one of the basic literacy skills that primary school students must have. Speaking and presentation skills must be trained as early as possible so that students are ready to convey their ideas and ideas in front of many people. This research aims to quantitatively describe the speaking and presentation skills of grade VI primary school students in thematic learning. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive method. This method has six stages, namely: formulating the problem, determining the theoretical basis, making hypotheses, collecting data, analysing data, and drawing conclusions. The research respondents totalled 25 students, consisting of 16 male students and 9 female students. The data collection technique used was observation of students' speaking and presentation skills. The results showed that male students' speaking and presentation skills were almost the same as female students' speaking and presentation skills towards thematic learning in primary school. Both groups of students had almost the same mean score of speaking and presentation skills (86.75% for the male group, and 87.00% for the female group). Both groups of students were in the very high category. Primary school students must continue to be guided in order to maintain their speaking and presentation skills. Teachers should be able to provide more opportunities for students to convey their ideas and ideas through presentations in front of the class. Future researchers are expected to research other basic literacy skills related to language skills.
