Abstract

Abstract. Calculus is a branch of science from Mathematics that is needed for the development of science so that it is important for students who take mathematics study programs. This study aims to analyze the ability of students' mathematical understanding of calculus courses based on Apos theory. The subjects of this study were 30 regular 5th semester students in class A Mathematics Education Study Program 2018/2019 academic year at one of Universities in East Jakarta. Data is collected through tests, interviews and observation. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the analysis of the ability of students' mathematical understanding in calculus subjects based on Apos theory is as follows: (1) The achievement of students' mathematical understanding ability in calculus courses based on Apos theory is still not optimal, especially in the indicator of 'functional understanding'. (2) There are 5 students who get a value of less than 50, There are 6 students who score between 50 and 60, There are 5 students who get grades between 61 and 70, There are 8 students who score between 71 and 80 and There are 6 students who score between 81 and 100. (3) The average test of mathematical comprehension ability overall was 68.3 and the perfect score was achieved by 2 students.
