Abstract
This study aims to determine how the characteristics of the eruption of Mount Sinabung, and relation to socioeconomic conditions and government policies in emergency response, the eruption of Mount Sinabung. Description of the research method of direct observation to the slopes of Mount Sinabung disaster area and purposive sampling. Based on the results of the study: (1) from the results of the study 41,501% classified volcanic ash, in the short term, volcanic ash has a negative effect on the environment. However, in the long run, volcanic ash has benefits for human life, especially in agriculture and the volume of material Sinabung eruption about 50 million m3 to 300 m thick can be used as a good C class mining for building materials, (2) economic activity from the society recorded the whole region is threatened because of crop failure in 2,666 ha was cropland, 1.8853 ha is land horticulture and plantation land area of 5,402 ha, and (3) policies of the Government is to provide incentives for refugees in a radius of 5 km and housing compensation society stricken with IDR 148,25 billion budget funds
